With the announcement of the First Scholars program, applications for the University of Baltimore’s first freshmen class in 30 years are beginning to come in. This edition’s column focuses on freshmen admission requirements. The next edition will focus on the new lower-division curriculum for freshmen.
What are the admission requirements for freshmen?
Access has been a hallmark of UB since its founding in 1925. In support of this institutional value, freshmen applicants will be evaluated on a broad range of criteria including high school curriculum, SAT or ACT scores, and a personal statement. To provide a more complete profile, applicants may submit optional additional supporting documentation such as letters of recommendation and co-curricular transcripts.
Are there GPA or SAT score minimums?
Because we recognize that many factors contribute to college success, no minimum cut-offs will be used. We anticipate that successful applicants will have about 500 on each scale of the new SAT, and that many applicants will have a B to B- high school GPA.
What is the application deadline?
The deadline for freshmen applications is Feb. 15. Prospective students who apply by this date should receive an admission decision in March. Admitted students are asked to accept their offer of admission by May 1 and will be required to submit a $100 enrollment deposit. Early admission will not be offered to the freshmen class entering in fall 2007.
