I am honored to serve as the new Director of Campus Recreation Services (CRS) here at the University of Baltimore. The opportunity to serve in this capacity is exciting because of the quality recreation program here at UB and the potential for future growth.

For the past 12 years, I worked in CRS at Towson University. During that time, I expanded the Club Sports program and created an Adventure Pursuits program. I was also involved in the renovation and construction of recreation facilities. I see a lot of the same potential here at UB for expanded programs and facilities.

The programs within CRS provide great potential for growth. CRS currently runs a diverse offering of fitness classes on a weekly basis. It is my hope that a personal training program can be added in the coming years. This would complement the current fitness classes and the programs offered out of the Wellness Center.

I am particularly interested in expanding the Intramural and Club Sport programs. Intramural basketball started in February and indoor soccer will begin the first week of March. The coming months will include several one-day events and smaller tournaments. Currently, UB has one club sport team, Men's Lacrosse. Their spring schedule can be found at www.ubalt.edu/clubsports.

If you have interest in starting a new club sport, please contact me at wschnirel@ubalt.edu. The Athletic Center has seen numerous facility improvements over the last several years. This trend should continue as more space becomes available in the Athletic Center. I am hopeful that the near future will include the refinishing of the gym floor. This includes upgrading the volleyball system and adding badminton courts. I will also be looking into expanding the cardio equipment and spinning room.

If you have a chance to stop by Campus Recreation Services, located in the Academic Center, please come in and introduce yourself. I look forward to working with you to increase the recreational and athletic opportunities at the University of Baltimore.

I hope you have enjoyed the new Sports & Recreation page. Look for continued coverage in the months to come.

Bill Schnirel
