The Student Events Board is fully into the swing of spring, having enjoyed well-attended events in March, and is geared up to provide an equally intriguing and entertaining month of programming in April. Our annual outing to Washington for the National Cherry Blossom Festival is such a hit that it's already sold out!

SEB will present the 2nd Open Mic/Open Stage Talent Showcase at 7:30 p.m. on April 10 in the Langsdale Auditorium. SEB asked college students from all over the Baltimore area, "Are you a superstar?" and, like last year, received resounding response from UB and neighboring campus colleagues. Last year's judges were so blown away by the level of talent displayed-from singers, poets, dancers, rappers and musicians-that they added to the generous pile of prizes awarded. This year's version of UB's very own "Idol" competition, co-sponsored by new campus organization PURPOSE, is free, open to the public and promises an even bigger night of student performances not to be missed.

Just in time to announce these and other upcoming events, SEB has re-launched its website—www.ubalt.edu/seb—which is frequently updated with news, promotions and pictures from recent events. Also, check the Student Center lobby often to visit SEB members and see what's going on, especially during Earth Week.

A peek into May finds SEB mixing fun and community service with a Car Wash Fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. Co-sponsored by ODK and the CNCM Student Association, everyone in the UB area is encouraged, on May 1, to drive through Morton Alley and get a shine put on the ride for a very worthy cause. A minimum $5 donation is requested. Later that same night, the Board offers up a free, outdoor screening of "I Am Legend" on Gordon Plaza. Free popcorn, soda and snacks will be provided.

In between all the entertainment, community action and fun, SEB runs an efficient business alongside its cohorts in student government. It makes sense then that SEB will hold its Board elections at the same time as the entities of the SGA. The existing officers and members hope that all aspiring UB event planners will apply to join or run for office, especially since next semester touts quite an interesting reorganization plan.

Stay tuned and have an eventful month!

—Lynda Evans, SEB Communications Officer on behalf of the Officers of SEB

Welcome Back!

This semester the Graduate Student Senate (GSS) has some great opportunities just for you!

But first, GSS would like to thank all the UB students, family, friends, staff and faculty who came to the St. Patty's Day event at the Hyatt on March 14. We raised about $2,000 for the GSS Scholarship!

Here is what's coming up:

Parking Proposal Forum: On April 3, the university will be holding a forum on the parking proposal draft from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This is a proposal that will cost UB student drivers literally and figuratively! Please come because your voice needs to be heard!

UB Block Party: GSS will have an outreach table at the Block Party taking place on April 17. Come to Gordon Plaza to see your GSS executives and members in person and get some food!

Elections: Are you interested in getting involved? Do you want to serve your fellow grad students by helping to make their experience at UB more socially and academically advantageous? Apply for a position! Election packets are posted on the GSS website!

Networking Event: Would you like to have a free set of business cards? The first 50 graduate students will receive business cards when they R.S.V.P. by April 1 for the April 16 GSS Networking Event. Come to make connections with employers! See the UB website calendar for more details!

The SBA would like to welcome everyone back from Spring Break.

On March 1, Grant Posner, 2L representative, and Shannon Kraus, ABA representative, attended the 3rd Circuit regional conference of the ABA Law Student Division at Widener University, where they met other SBA members and community leaders. The ABA circuit governor and his guests presented information about current legal issues and upcoming ABA legislation. The University of Baltimore representatives were briefed about the ABA's recent initiative to improve mental health assistance for law students.

The SBA, along with the USS, GSS and SEB, sponsored two events for UB's Week of Unity, March 3 through 7. Early in the week, speaker Marlon Smith captivated an audience in the Student Center auditorium with an interactive diversity dialogue. The week culminated with a standing-room-only performance of "Allah Made Me Funny: The Muslim Comedy Tour." All shared laughs as the performers put a lighthearted twist on cultural differences. The week was a great success, and the SBA will continue to engage in opportunities to promote diversity around campus.

In other news, the 3L class gift, a standing clock, will soon be delivered to the Law School and displayed in the lobby. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the class gift.

The SBA will also co-sponsor a debt repayment seminar on April 8 in the Business Center Auditorium at noon and 5 p.m. Lenders will be present to answer questions about consolidating and managing debt after law school. Food will also be provided.

Also, please start forming teams for the Annual UB vs. UMD kickball tournament to be held April 12. More information will be available shortly.
