Become a Better You

Greetings from the Soul Sistah. Well, UB, here we are at the last issue of The UB Post until the fall, so I decided that, instead of answering a reader question, I'd like to ask readers a question. You remember "what I did last summer" reports we did in grade school, right? Of course you do— so let's take that idea and update it just a little for those of us who no longer have to raise our hands to go to the bathroom, eat mystery meat and dehydrated potatoes or get sent to the principal's office.
The question is: What is your personal growth goal for the summer? What are you planning to do to become a better you? Think about it, set a goal, and write in to let me know what it was and if it was successful. You have a couple of months, so take your time. I'll share my goal with you to get the ball rolling.
It seems, lately, my body has been dealt several blows with everything from stomach ulcers to pre-diabetes to internal cysts. As a result, I have been put on several medications that seem to make me feel worse rather than better. The madness must end! It is time for me to put my trust in God and not in doctors. This is not to say I will ignore my doctors' orders or stop any medications prematurely; instead, I've realized it's way past time for me to consult my Father, not for his second opinion, but for his healing power.
"He was wounded for our
transgressions, He was
bruised for our iniquities,
the chastisement of our peace
was upon Him and with His
stripes we are healed."
—Isaiah 53:5
My doctor has been encouraging me to get more exercise, and now that the weather is getting warmer, this is the perfect time and opportunity to start. I have begun to take praise walks at least three times a week. A praise walk is 45 minutes to an hour in which I walk, I talk, I thank God, and I heal. This is my personal time with my healer. By the end of the summer, I fully expect to be a new person. Less medication, less pain, less stress, more faith, more wellness and, above all, a closer walk with thee!
There is a famous poem called
"Footprints" (Carolyn Carty, 1963)
that reminds us very simply:
"During your times of trial
and suffering, when you see
only one set of footprints, it
was then that I carried you."
My footprints are leading to a healthier me. I'll let you know how I did, and I'll be waiting for your responses.
Peace and Blessings
