Since the April issue of The UB Post, the newspaper has been publicly reproved for two elements of the front page article "$1,400 to Park?" At the employee town hall meeting on April 9 and the student forum on April 10, members of the administration expressed grievances about the article.

The UB Post readily acknowledges the mathematical error in the last line of the graphic illustrating parking-rate possibilities for students. Newspaper staff upon delivery from our printer caught the error, and we quickly relayed the information to members of student government, addressed it with administration and made a correction on our website.

Also, the $1,400 in the headline has been called into question. While the number is not explicitly stated in the article or the graphic, the number, as well as amounts in excess of $1,400, is possible in several situations. For example, a student who spends more than 14 weeks per semester on campus or a student who takes summer classes will pay a higher annual rate.

Unfortunately, this is not the first instance of a complaint being made against the newspaper without the complainant addressing the concern to the newspaper. Instead of making critical comments to Student Affairs staff or in public forums, readers, whether staff, students or otherwise, should address their concerns to me, as I am ultimately responsible for any and all content that goes into the newspaper.

Making unfounded accusations does not facilitate a campus dialogue, is unprofessional and degrades the newspaper, which in turn, discourages the staff and stifles the educational experience of the newspaper.

Sincerely,
Nedra Cruz
Editor in Chief
